Whilst visiting Sotterley Sawmills to select English elm flooring for their home, the Towners were impressed with the contemporary fine furniture created by Tom Jones machinist and cabinet maker at Sutton Timber. Mr Towner said ‘Thomas was working on a chair of such beautiful form and materials, we had to ask him to make us one, and a dressing table to go with it…’
Thomas was commissioned to craft a contemporary dressing table to suit interior of their beautifully renovated 1960’s Span House. He produced a sleek slim design to fit neatly underneath the bedroom window.
Using the same wood as the chair, the dressing table was also made from ash and elm. The legs and top are ash with a crafted central section which is hinged at the back. This reveals a mirror with a secret lift out tray compartment beneath. The front curves around either side and is divided into three individual pieces. The central piece is fixed with two neatly fitted drawers either side.
Mr Towner commented: ‘We left Sutton Timber with a real understanding that these guys have an innate love and feel for wood, and it’s very infectious.’
